How to Get a Taste of Spring in the Winter
Old Man Winter is hanging around for a few more weeks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still smell the roses!
There are a number of close and convenient ways for residents of Canvas Valley Forge apartments to commune with nature this winter, even if the temperature isn’t creeping up past freezing. While it may be tempting to hibernate when the weather is cold, local events, parks and more offer the opportunity to enjoy the beauty that will be on display this spring just a little bit early.
Philadelphia Flower Show: From March 3-11, take the quick 40-minute Regional Rail ride from the nearby Norristown Transportation Center, 4.5 miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, into Center City for the annual Philadelphia Flower Show. One of the largest horticultural events in the world, the show features hundreds of vendors and award-winning, eye-catching floral displays. Take in lectures, see demonstrations, try your own hand at floral-related crafts and even enter a butterfly sanctuary, where the creatures will soar above your head and may even land on you. The Philadelphia Flower Show is a great opportunity to get a jump-start on spring.
McKaig Nature Education Center: The nature center, 1.5 miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, provides nearly 100 acres of parkland for people of all ages to enjoy. Bike, hike or leisurely walk through the park for some peaceful exercise and in the process you may spot rare birds and other wildlife. The center offers frequent nature programming and ample volunteer opportunities for those looking to give back.
Visit a local garden: Montgomery County Alive compiled a helpful guide of local gardens. Many are open year-round and offer opportunities for free self-guided tours, as well as opportunities to take part in horticultural events and discussions.
