Embrace Your Inner Artist in MontCo
Whether you consider yourself an art aficionado or barely know the difference between a water color and paint-by-the-number, it’s undeniable that art can be engaging, thought-provoking and inspiring. Near your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, there are many opportunities to experience all of those sensations, as the area is home to studios, galleries and museums that showcase artwork of all genres.
Here are just a few ways to enhance your art appreciation and embrace your inner artist without traveling too far from home:
Bernard Katz Glass: About 3.5 miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment is Bernard Katz Glass, a studio devoted to the glass arts. The artist recently moved his studio to our neck of the woods, giving locals the opportunity to learn about glass-blowing and appreciate his artistry. On Saturday afternoons and by appointments, visitors can peruse Katz’s work and may even see him in action as he creates hand-blown glass sculptures for public and private installations.
Pennypacker Mills: One of Montgomery County’s most famous families, the Pennypackers, will be featured prominently in a new art exhibit that opened this month. Starting March 1, “The Art of Josephine W. Pennypacker” will be on display through the fall at Pennypacker Mills, about a half-hour drive from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment. Pennypacker was the oldest granddaughter of the state’s former governor, who lived at the house, which was constructed in the 1700s, at the start of the 20th century. Apart from showcasing Josephine Pennypacker’s work, the new art exhibit also explores the opportunities and challenges for women artists throughout history. Both the exhibit and tours of the historic house are free, with admission open Tuesday through Saturday.
Wayne Art Center: For nearly 100 years, Wayne Art Center, located about four miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, has showcased renowned art, from international artists to those right here in nearby neighborhoods. The center features a number of exhibitions, which rotate monthly and include textiles, paintings, glasswork, sculptures and more. It also offers an adult-education series, where artists of all skill levels can try their hands at sculpting, drawing and everything in between.
