Three Ways to Send Off Summer
August has arrived, meaning the end of the summer will shortly follow, a bittersweet time for lovers of fun in the sun. If you’re dreading the shorter days, the cooler weather and the departure of the lazy, leisurely days of summer, you’re certainly not alone! However, there are still a few short weeks where we can embrace all that summer has to offer—and, near your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, that’s an awful lot!
Here are a few ways to squeeze the most you can out of the end of summer 2018:
Performances in the Park: Greater Plymouth Community Center, about 15 minutes from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, hosts Wednesday night outdoor cultural events through Aug. 15. On Aug. 1, enjoy hits from cover band Not Quitting Your Day Job, while the film “Coco” will be screened the following week. The series wraps up with a concert by Flower Power, which plays your favorites from the ’60s and ’70s. Don’t forget a blanket or chair!
Carillon Concerts: Through Aug. 14, Washington Memorial Church, 2.5 miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, features musicians from around the world, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and right here in the Valley Forge area. The free outdoor concerts are held every Wednesday evening. Music lovers are encouraged to bring snacks, a blanket and lawn chairs.
’78 Mile Challenge: From May though October, Valley Forge National Historical Park, 1.5 miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, is encouraging locals to enjoy the park and get some exercise. The ’78 Mile Challenge urges walkers, runners, bikers, hikers and even paddlers to hit the trails and waterways within the park. When they reach 78 miles—in honor of 1778, the year General Washington and his troops camped at the park—they’re eligible for prizes. Before it gets cooler, get out and about in the park to enjoy the sunshine and challenge yourself.
