Giving Back this Thanksgiving Season
The Thanksgiving season is upon us! For many, that means turkey, stuffing and all the fixings! While many celebrate the holiday indulging, surrounded by family and friends—and, of course, playing some football—Thanksgiving can be challenging for those who are struggling. Far too many families are grappling with job losses, medical conditions and other challenges that make it hard to put food on the table year-round, let alone during this holiday season. Poverty unfortunately strikes people everywhere, including here in King of Prussia near your Canvas Valley Forge apartment. However, those whose plates are overflowing can embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving this year by giving back to those in need.
Among the local organizations striving to lend a helping hand to those who are struggling is RSVP, which has been matching volunteers with locals in need since 1973. Headquartered about two miles from your Canvas Valley Forge apartment, RSVP connects volunteers of all ages with projects that suit their interests and abilities. The organization works with nonprofit and corporate partners from around the area, with a reach that is so wide volunteers have hundreds of opportunities from which to choose.
Older adults interested in passing along their talents to youngsters can tutor local students, read to preschoolers, counsel at-risk youth or serve as mentors to help area teens stay on the right path. Those with particular skill sets can lead art classes, advise nonprofit organizations on business topics and lead tours at local museums or historic sites. The organization also does a lot of work with seniors, such as through adult-literacy programs, return-to-school initiatives for seniors and in-home care.
If you have a lot to give thanks for this Thanksgiving and want to share some of that spirit with the local community, call 610-834-1040 x. 123 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
